I. About UJN
University of Jinan (UJN) is a key and comprehensive university in Shandong Province with a history of 75 years. It is entitled a distinctive institution of higher learning which is committed to cultivating applied-talented students. It offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs and enjoys the right to recommend postgraduates exempting admission examinations. University of Jinan has two campuses, covering an area of over 2.43 million square meters. It has 23 schools, 3 post-doctoral research center and more than 38,000 full-time students, including undergraduates, postgraduates and international students. There are 11 kinds of major specialties, namely Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Science, Technology, Management and Art. 7 disciplines, such as Computer Science and Technology, are taken into the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database, ranking in the top 1%.
II. About ISE
The undergraduate education history of School of Information Science and Engineering (ISE) of Jinan University can be traced back to 1978. Currently, there are 170 teaching staff, including 24 professors, 65 deputy senior staff, and a high-level teaching and research team led by national outstanding teachers, new century talents of the Ministry of Education, Mount Taishan scholars of Shandong Province, winners of the Shandong Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund, and global highly cited scientists. The college recruits’ students from all over the world, with 2417 undergraduate students and 547 graduate students currently enrolled.
The college has doctoral degree authorization points for the computer science and technology, as well as master's degree authorization points for computer science and technology and information and communication engineering. The college also has four professional degree authorization areas: computer technology, artificial intelligence, communication engineering, and integrated circuit engineering. The computer science discipline has entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings. After years of development, the college has formed four stable research directions: network systems and data security, intelligent computing theory and methods, visual computing and applications, and intelligent IoT and systems.
The college has been approved for the Ministry of Education's "Silk Road" Chinese Government Scholarship Program for five consecutive years, receiving nearly 50 postgraduate students supported by national scholarships. At present, the college is conducting joint doctoral programs with the University of Waterloo in Canada, the University of Otago in New Zealand, and Hanyang University and Gwangyun University in South Korea. The college has established long-term and stable academic exchanges and mutual visits with teachers and students from more than 20 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, and New Zealand.
III. Scholarship Overview

2. Duration: 3 years for Master’s degree program, and 4 years for Doctoral degree program

- Master’s students: RMB3,000 yuan/month (Chinese Government Scholarship), or others
- Doctoral students: RMB3,500 yuan/month (Chinese Government Scholarship), or others
IV. Eligibility
- be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically;
- be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;
- be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;
- students should come from countries where English is the mother tongue or official language, or graduate from English taught major or have English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0/ TOEFL 70/ Duolingo English Test 100 or above.
V. Application Procedure
- Cover letter (please SELECT one of the prospective supervisors from the Supervisor List below. Applications without clear indication of your preferred supervisor will be considered INVALID);
- Detailed resume (basic info plus photo, marital status, GPA, education, professional expertise, research experience, publications if any, etc.). Please prepare your resume according to the TEMPLATE attached;
- Academic transcripts;
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree certificate;
- Study plan at University of Jinan.
- Reference letters. At least three reference letters are required. All referrers should be faculties with personal homepages in a university. Each reference letter should be sent to the email address of your preferred supervisor by the REFERRER HIMSELF.

VI. Discipline and Annual Review
- The scholarship recipients are required to study full-time at the University of Jinan, during which they should strictly abide by the school and scholarship management regulations, and should submit an application and a letter of consent from the supervisor and the school if there are any special circumstances. Those who deliberately violate the relevant regulations may be suspended or disqualified from the scholarship.
- According to the regulations of the China Scholarship Council, students of this program are required to participate in the annual review of the scholarship every year. Those who fail to pass the annual review will be suspended or disqualified from the scholarship.
- According to the regulations of the China Scholarship Council, those who are awarded Chinese Government Scholarship are not eligible for other scholarships set up by the Chinese government or University of Jinan at all levels at the same time.

Bo Yang, Ph.D., Professor. He received the Ph.D. degree in computational materials science from the Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2006. His main research interests include intelligent computing, computer networks, machine learning, knowledge discovery, and intelligent control. He is the Winner of CCF Outstanding Education Award. Yuehui Chen, Ph.D., Professor. He received the Ph.D. degree from the Kumamoto University of Japan in 2001. Zhenxiang Chen, Ph.D., Professor. He received the Ph.D. degree from the School of Computer Science and Technology, Shandong University, Jinan, in 2008. His research interests include network behavior analysis, mobile security and privacy, and intelligent information processing. In this area. Xiaohong Wang, Ph.D., Professor. He received the Ph.D. degree from Northeastern University, China. He has been committed to the automation, intellectualization, and standardization of process control in process industry for a long time, and made remarkable achievements in theoretical research and engineering practice of intelligent manufacturing in building materials industry. Lin Wang, Ph.D., Professor. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science and technology from the School of Computer Science and Technology, Shandong University, Jinan, in 2011. His research interests include hybrid computational intelligence, cement modeling, and data mining. He is the Winner of the ACM Jinan Rising Star Award, Winner of the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Academic Innovation Award. Yuangong Sun, Ph.D., Professor. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science and technology from the Mathematics, Peking University, in 2009. His research interests include Machine Learning. Jin Zhou, Ph.D., Professor. He received the Ph.D. degree in software engineering from the University of Macau, Macau, China, in 2014. Sijie Niu, Ph.D., Professor. He was a visiting scholar with Stanford University, and holds postdoctoral position in medical image analysis with the University of North Carolina at Chapel.
